Or maybe you'll just understand a little more why this one-level game is exciting us so much.ĭevil Daggers is out now via Steam and costs £4/$5. Maybe you're more likely to give it a try if you see a bit more of it. Chances are that you don't have an Adam and Alice in your life to talk about it quite that much, which means you may never play Devil Daggers at all. On top of that, I only tried Devil Daggers after being exposed to a full week's chatter about it by Alice and Adam. It survives to be interesting and fun after you understand it all. Part of the appeal of Devil Daggers for me was being dropped into a game I didn't understand and puzzling out how its enemies and gems worked over time, but that's not its only appeal and the mystery is not essential. No one knows the true origins of the mysterious dagger that is bestowed upon the player, granting them both its power and its curse. The video is great, sez I, but I've also uploaded it because I have a theory. The Dagger Origin Center of the first room Ability Allows player to shoot small, replica daggers from their fingertips as a stream, or in a shotgun-like blast. I love that DraQu is still top of the leaderboard now, days later, suggesting this is a significant accomplishment. I love that your weapon becomes immensely more powerful but that terrible panic of being overwhelmed never goes away. I love the look of the enemies that I have yet to face myself, which bring to mind not only Quake but Dark Souls for their dignified menace. I like the moments of calm, where player DraQu (who streams the game here) has successfully wiped the board clean and stands and shimmies before the chaos begins again. Which is why I've recorded the replay of the best time in the world and embedded it below, for you to watch if you so choose. It's exciting to watch excellent in action. They feel a little like spoilers, but they're also ways to learn and a big part of the reason why I'm enjoying the game. It’s called Devil Dagger, and for most people, it will. That means you can watch stages of the game far beyond where you've reached. Devil Daggers, the Super Hexagon of shooters, is so difficult that the developer, Sorath, only put a single achievement in the game. Another part of its appeal, however, is that you can press a button on its leaderboard and instantly be watching the replay of that person's session. Part of its appeal is that it doesn't explain anything about how it's overlapping enemies and few systems work, meaning each life and death is a process of discovery. It's a first-person arena shooter with shades of Quake. i had nothing but problems with those (i admit, i didn't buy one of those for a very long time, so this might have changed).Devil Daggers is brilliant, as Adam explained in his review. What i definitely would not recommend is any super cheap "compatible" no-name controllers. it's absurdly expensive, but it's also by far the best controller i ever had. and if money is not a problem, go for the XBox One controller (perhaps with wireless adapter). it's a very solid controller overall (i like it a lot more than the ps3/4 controller, but that's a personal preference). the standard (wired) 360 controller is pretty cheap. If you really want to give it a try, i would say go for the XBox controller. but it's worse than mouse+kb in games that play best with mouse+kb, and it's worse than a controller in games that play best with a controller. In 2016, a first-person shooter called Devil Daggers appeared on Steam. the steam controller is mainly good if you want to play in a situation where you can't use mouse+kb (living room, couch). You don't want to use controllers because you want to be able to alt-tab (which you can of course do without problems and almost as fast, if you use a controller at your desk)? well, that really sounds like an excuse! :P it doesn't take much to get used to it, really.Īlthough also I think the main reason I like to use keyboard and mouse is that I get distracted VERY easily and I like to tab out of games often (doing it right now, in fact) and when you're using kb+mouse its just easier to simply slam alt-tab and be distracted.# :)īut i guess for someone like you it doesn't really make sense to tell you how good "mouse-games" like shooters work with a controller, right? ^^ but games that are optimized for controllers (many 3rd person games, racing games.) - well, they typically work best with a controller. and i just love leaning back and playing comfortably. yes, a mouse would still be more accurate.
